In my third-year design class at UofT, we did this exercise where each group was randomly assigned a font to base their entire project on…
We pulled Impact. My first thought? “Of course, it had to be Impact,” which got a laugh out of the professor. But then I thought, why not turn this around?
A few hours and a whole lot of head-scratching later, it was time to present. Now, I won’t lie—it wasn’t exactly a masterpiece (so I’ll spare you the details), but what I took away from it was a couple of good laughs with classmates and a solid lesson: sometimes life hands you an Impact and a choice. You can either dwell on it or make something out of it, ideally something fun that brings a few laughs along the way.
So who am I? I’m someone who sees the tougher challenges as the most exciting ones—the tighter the brief, the more interesting the process. For me, it’s all about finding ways to make things weirder, sharper, and more memorable.
